Shop Locally, Farm Style

Shopping locally is something I look forward to. I’ve learned that I can find nearly everything I need when I pay attention, make new connections, and stay intentional. My curiosity for raw milk and other fresh foods brought me to a local farm and opened my eyes even further to how life can be uniquely ours when we shop locally.

A Tradition to Shop Locally

A few years ago, John and I decided to make a deliberate step to buy all of our Christmas gifts from local small businesses. Not only did we see really unique talents but we also discovered shops we never knew existed. As our family continues to shop locally, we meet “neighbors” in surrounding cities and hopefully make a difference in the lives of shop owners and friends.

The Gift of Local Health

The idea to shop locally has stuck with us for several years now. However, this isn’t just for gifts anymore. My quest for a healthier lifestyle brought me to research the benefits of local foods. While my own garden and other local gardens bring us seasonally, nutritious produce I wanted to extend our healthy options to dairy and other foods.

Raw Milk Near Me

Learning the amazing benefits of local eggs from free-range chickens and raw milk set me on the search for a local farm near me that sells raw milk. Lucky for me, I found several close by and decided to visit Carlton Farms in Rockmart, Georgia. I found it to be a treasure nestled right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. So discreet that we drove right past it and had to make a u-turn.

Longing For Community

We drove behind the main house and found the shop. Luckily, a local to the community had gone in just before us so we simply followed his lead. The shop currently operates on the honor system, which I find amazing and refreshing. They sell their own dairy products, eggs, and meats but also pull in other local goods. The day we went they had local honey, candles, soaps, and nut butter. We simply chose what we wanted, wrote our choices on a notepad, and could pay with a card or drop cash in a lockbox. Local, simple, convenient…reminded me what it feels like to be part of a community. This made me long for a small town where friends support and care for one another.

Research and Choose

Little did I know there are such divided thoughts on raw milk. If you research this you will find two extremes. Before I go any further, let me say that choosing raw milk is a personal choice that I have researched and feel very good about. Fortunately, everyone gets to choose what is right for their family. This is not medical advice, simply me sharing our choices as a step towards a healthier lifestyle.

Why Raw Milk?

Some of the main reasons that over 10 million Americans now drink raw milk on a regular basis include the following raw milk benefits: [1]Dr. Axe Ancient Nutrition: https://draxe.com/nutrition/raw-milk-benefits/
